Estepona has over 20 kilometres of coastline. Not all of it is equal. Some beaches suit families with young children, others work better for couples looking for quiet, and a few are worth the drive for the scenery alone. This is an honest guide to the beaches we actually recommend to guests.
Playa del Cristo
This is the beach most guests come back to. Sheltered in a small cove east of the marina, Playa del Cristo is calm, clean, and manageable. The water is warmer than the open beaches because the bay traps heat, and the waves are minimal. It is the beach we recommend first for families with small children.
Parking is limited during July and August. Arriving before 10:30 in summer is advisable if you want a reasonable spot. Outside of peak season, it is rarely crowded.
Playa de la Rada
The main beach in Estepona, stretching along the promenade from the port towards the town centre. It is wide, well-maintained, and has the full infrastructure: chiringuitos, sun lounger rental, showers, lifeguards in season.
The appeal here is convenience. You can walk from most parts of town, eat lunch at one of the beachfront restaurants, and return without ever needing a car. The sand is darker than the cove beaches and the water is slightly rougher, but it is a solid all-round choice.
Estepona’s coastline stretches over 20 kilometres, offering everything from sheltered coves to wide open beaches.
Playa del Padron
Located west of the town centre, Playa del Padron is a longer, less developed beach that attracts a mix of locals and visitors who prefer something quieter. There are a few chiringuitos but no sun lounger operations.
The water is clean and the setting feels less urban than La Rada. It is a good option for a longer beach day with a book and a cooler bag. The trade-off is that you will need to drive or take a longer walk from central Estepona.
Playa Arroyo Vaquero
A smaller beach further west towards Casares. This is the option for visitors who want something genuinely quiet. No facilities, no crowds, just sand and sea. It is backed by a small river estuary which gives it a slightly different character to the town beaches.
We recommend this beach specifically for couples or anyone who finds the main beaches too busy during peak months.
What we tell our guests
We include beach recommendations in every guest welcome pack, tailored to the specific property location and the type of group. A family in a villa near the port gets different advice than a couple in a penthouse near the new golden mile.
The honest answer is that most beaches in Estepona are good. The differences are in convenience, crowd levels, and facilities. None of them are bad.
